Roof Truss FAQs

What is a Roof Truss?

A Roof Truss is a prefabricated, engineered timber framework designed to support your roof and safely transfer loads to the supporting walls. It replaces traditional cut roof construction and allows for faster, more efficient installation on site.

Why use timber Roof Trusses instead of traditional cut roofs?

Timber Roof Trusses are designed and manufactured off-site to ensure consistent quality and rapid installation. Compared to traditional cut roofs, they reduce build time, lower on-site labour costs, minimise material waste, improve health and safety, allow for longer clear spans, and offer greater design flexibility.

In addition, engineered timber Roof Trusses can use up to 40% less timber than traditional cut roof construction, making them a more sustainable and cost-effective solution for residential and commercial builds.

How far can a timber Roof Truss span?

Standard Roof Trusses can typically span up to 16 metres without internal load-bearing supports when correctly designed. We are also experienced in designing and manufacturing Trusses with spans of up to 18 metres, depending on the project specification.

Can Roof Trusses create usable loft space?

Yes. Attic Trusses (also known as Room-in-Roof) are specifically designed to create open, usable space within the roof structure. This allows for future loft conversions or immediate additional living accommodation.

Do your Roof Trusses meet UK Building Regulations?

Yes. All Roof Trusses are fully designed, engineered and manufactured to comply with current UK Building Regulations and relevant British Standards. Detailed structural calculations and drawings are provided for every project.

How quickly can I receive my Roof Trusses?

We offer a 5-day FASTRACK delivery service from receipt of signed drawings, helping to keep your project on schedule. Standard lead times are also available, please contact us for current availability.
Depending on site access and project size, delivery may be via rigid or articulated vehicles. We can also supply Trusses with pre-slung lifting straps to assist with crane offloading.
Our transport team will coordinate delivery with your build programme to minimise disruption.

Do you offer installation?

Yes. We offer a complete Supply & Fit service, managing your project from design and manufacture through to delivery and on-site installation.

Our fully qualified installation teams are overseen by experienced Contract Managers to ensure safe, efficient and compliant installation.

Are Roof Trusses treated against weather and pests?

Yes. Timber used in our Roof Trusses can be Vac-Vac treated in accordance with UK Building Regulations to provide long-term protection against decay, fungal attack and wood-boring insects.

Additional treatment options are available for exposed or specialist applications.

What is the lifespan of a Roof Truss?

When correctly installed and protected from moisture, timber Roof Trusses can achieve a service life of 60 years or more, in line with UK Building Regulations.

Do I need an architect or structural engineer to order Trusses?

Not necessarily. Our experienced in-house design team can work directly from your architectural drawings to create a fully engineered Roof Truss solution.
We use advanced design software and decades of expertise to ensure structural compliance and optimal performance.

Can Roof Trusses be used for all types of buildings?

Yes. Roof Trusses are suitable for residential, commercial and industrial buildings. Each Truss is bespoke designed to meet the specific structural and layout requirements of your project.

What information do I need to provide for a quote?

To prepare an accurate quotation, we typically require:
• Overall building dimensions (length, width and height)
• Roof style (gable, hip, mono-pitch etc.)
• Span and pitch
• Loading requirements (e.g. solar panels, roof finishes)
• Site location and access details
• Architectural or structural drawings (if available)
